Abstract
Previous studies, particularly by Paquette (rhetorical repetitions), Paden (figurative repetitions), and Owens (lexical repetitions), have studied repeated textual elements in "La Chanson de Roland". This paper continues that exploration, focusing on reappearing objects. Passive and active roles of reappearing objects introduce into the epic complex emotions of characters, and offer insights into the relationship between inner worlds of characters and the outer world that is the theater of their actions.
